Campus Reimagined
Active Trail
Works began: August 2025
Estimated completion date: No later than September 2026
Brief
The Active Trail is one of the six ‘mini projects’ that were chosen by students and staff in a public vote in June 2025.
The vote followed hundreds of suggestions received through the Campus Reimagined Live event in February of the same year.
Over 3500 people voted and the winning projects all centre around spaces to meet, eat and relax.

Further information
The University is working with Re-form Landscape Architecture, England Athletics and local running club Hyde Park Harriers.
The Secretary of the Harriers, Grace Roberts, is a Scientific Officer in the School of Biomedical Sciences and is keen to extend the club’s ethos, which is centred around inclusivity and supporting the community.
The planning team are considering how we currently use our spaces, including points of entry, key routes and existing fitness facilities – as well as campus’ unique architecture and landscape, which the route will showcase.
While great for runners of all abilities, a wide range of other activities will be supported by the Active Trail, including wheeling and walking.
A 1200m circuit has been suggested and trialled by staff and students.
Their feedback is being considered in the final stage of route planning, before work begins on campus to bring the trail to life.
Project timeline
The works began in August 2025 and are due for completion no later than Summer 2026.
